The syllabus for Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Thermal Power Engineering is built for the duration of the course, split into four semesters. The students are exposed to sustainable and renewable energy. They gain advanced knowledge on alternate sources of energy like wind, solar & biomass and their applications. The subjects covered in the first year are Heat Transfer, Internal combustion engines, CAD, Fluid Machinery and Computational Fluid Dynamics. The third and fourth semesters of the second year is the project phase where the students are required to complete their internships and projects.

Candidates must have passed BE/ B.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Civil Engineering/ Industrial Engineering & Management/ Industrial Production/ Automobile Engineering with not less than 50% marks (45% for SC/ ST/ OBC candidates) in aggregate of all the semesters/ years of the degree examination or passed the Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers (AMIE) exam in the appropriate branch. They should have cleared the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET)/ Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Civil Engineering with qualifying marks.
