Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana University (VYASA) is a registered charitable institution established in 1986. It strives to make Yoga a socially relevant science. Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana University, Bangalore, envisions combining the best of East (Yoga and Spiritual) with the West (Modern Scientific Research). The institute offers both Long-Term and Short-Term courses on Yoga and its allied subjects.
S-VYASA, Bangalore, gained its Deemed-to-be-University status in 2002 under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. It is a unique Yoga University translating the vision and teachings of Swami Vivekananda to action through Higher Education academic programs.
The University has been recognized as a “Centre of Excellence in Yoga” by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. It has an Advanced Centre for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy sponsored by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
S-VYASA is the only Yoga University offering multiple courses in Yoga. Students go through Life training and Character-Building education with Yoga as a way of life. It follows the Gurukula way of schooling combined with a modern scientific approach and ensures that students get practical experience with in-depth research.
Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana University, Bangalore campus is situated 30 km away from the centre of Bangalore. The name of the university campus is Prashanti Kutiram meaning the “Abode of Peace”. The university is located amidst greenery in a sprawling campus spread over 100 acres. The campus is around 14 km away from the picturesque Bannerghatta National Park.
The university also has a Yoga Therapy Research Health Home called Arogyadhama. In addition to that, the university has a 250-bed naturopathy hospital for inpatient treatment.
S-VYASA believes that the library is the soul of the institution. The institute’s library is called Saraswati Central Library. It has a good collection of 15,000 books and videos accessible to both faculty and students.
The institute also has a digital library that provides access to online journals and reprographic facilities. It is a centre of acquiring, preserving, and disseminating information to the user community with the motto of empowering knowledge. The library has a wide range of academic resources such as Books, Databases, CDs/ DVDs, Project Reports, Audio/ Video Cassettes and Question Banks.
The university has the best laboratory facility with modern technology to support the students and the faculty. Laboratories at S-VYASA, Bangalore, are known as Anvesena. They are equipped with tools to ensure the candidates pursue an exceptional practical education.

The university campus also provides an in-house Health care facility for the students and the faculty. The health centre of the institute is called Arogyadhama. It ensures the use of self-healing techniques based on research. Arogyadhama at S-VYASA takes care of medical emergencies where the students can use them in case of necessity. The university also has a Naturopathy Hospital that accommodates 250 patients.
Hostel accommodation is one of the critical components for students residing from far away places. The university provides separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls. It also ensures basic facilities such as food, transportation, laundry, security, etc. The Hostel ensures a healthy environment for the candidates. It helps them grow and learn without any obstacles with all the necessary amenities for boarding and other recreational activities.

Candidates applying for a Ph.D. in Yoga at S-VYASA should have completed a Master Degree program or equivalent from a recognized university or institute. They must have scored a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (50% for the students belonging to reserved categories) in the same. Students with Yoga Instructor Course (YIC) from S-VYASA through online or regular mode can also apply. Those who are appearing for the final year of the qualifying exam are also eligible. Students who have qualified NET can also apply.
