The University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences (UAHS), Shivammoga, was established in the year 2012. It aims to impart high-quality education that aids in the development of Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry. Keladi Shivappa Nayaka Agriculture University also aims to prepare students to conduct research in the relevant fields. The University of Agriculture and Horticultural Sciences is located in the Western Ghats. The university utilizes the diverse agro-ecological conditions to educate the students about the varied natural resources available in India and how to efficiently use them.
Keladi Shivappa Nayaka Agriculture University is the first integrated university in Karnataka which offers a degree in Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences. It has 9 Agricultural and Horticultural Research Stations which help farmers by providing inputs to improve their yields. Students are encouraged to undertake research to enable the growth of the agriculture sector and achieve excellence in their respective fields.
The university aims to deliver technologies that will solve problems that the agriculture sector faces and problems that are expected to arise soon. It delivers technology that reduces costs and upscales incomes. UAHS, Shimoga, also educates stakeholders about new developments in agriculture and allied areas. It constantly improves this process by taking feedback from them.
The University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga, has established a ‘Prioritization, Monitoring and Evaluation Cell’ which formulates programmes and monitor existing programmes like teaching and research activities. The university has 13 All India Coordinate Research Projects and 33 privately-funded projects. It has released several varieties of crops and introduced several technologies for improving the efficiency of agricultural production.
