Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute was established as two individual colleges, i.e. Dr. MGR Engineering College and the Thai Moogambigai Dental College. As per the orders of the University Grants Commission (UGC), both the colleges acquired Deemed University with graded Autonomy status as Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute.
Dr. MGR University was established with a vision to provide the students with a strong foothold to face their challenges easily. The university has won 44+ awards to date. The university is accredited by NBA and ABET. It has been awarded ‘B’ Grade by NBA and ‘A’ grade by NAAC. Dr. MGR University is an ISO 21001:2018 certified institution. It is approved by the AICTE, UGC, DCI, BCI, PCI, COA, NCTE, INC and NMC.
MGR University has over 11,300+ students studying in various undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Engineering, Medical, Dental, Law, Pharmacy and many more. Just like admissions in Bangalore, Dr. MGR University accepts JEE Main for its Engineering programs. The University also conducts its own entrance exam like MGREEE. Dr. MGR University, Chennai provides hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The hostels have a serene atmosphere that gives a feeling of a home to the students. The rooms at the Dr. MGR University, Chennai hostels have AC/ Non-AC facilities. Each room accommodates 3 students.
The rooms are furnished with chairs, tables, cots, wardrobes and an attached bathroom/ toilet. The hostels are equipped with 24/7 electricity and water supply.
