The Bangalore Institute of Dental Sciences (BIDS) was established in 1991 by Vignan Educational Foundation. The college is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Medical Sciences (RGUHS) and recognised by Dental Council of India (DCI).

In 2002 the college had its first batch of post-graduates under the specialities of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics, Periodontia, Prosthodontia and Conservative Dentistry, Endodontics, Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Public health dentistry, and Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry.

The college is located on a campus adjacent to Nimhans Convention Centre in central Bangalore. The students seeking admission for undergraduate courses must score a minimum of 50% with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as their compulsory subject. The students must also give NEET-UG examination to be eligible for the admission process.

When does the admission start?
All admissions to BDS courses start with an entrance test conducted in April 2019 by NEET. While the entrance examinations for admission to MDS courses normally happen between January-February of every year. The date for 2019 NEET PG test has passed. All BDS classes start in August while the MDS academic year starts from June.
