About GATE Exam:

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an entrance exam that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of the students about particular subjects.

GATE 2023 is scheduled to be conducted on February 4, 5, 11 and 12, 2023.

XE Paper Codes:

The GATE syllabus of Engineering Sciences (XE) has multiple disciplines. Each one of those disciplines leads the candidates to completely different careers.

XL Paper Codes:

GATE 2023 syllabus of Life Sciences (XL) has multiple subdisciplines. Each subdiscipline takes the students into different fields of life sciences.

Eligibility & Registration

Candidates have to meet the following eligibility criteria for GATE:

  • Candidates can belong to any nationality.
  • Candidates must have done graduation in engineering or post-graduation in master's degree of the relevant subject.
  • Candidates who are studying in the pre-final or final year of their course are also eligible to apply.
  • There is no exam age limit according to the GATE exam details.

The candidates who have completed/ are studying in the pre-final or final year of the following courses can apply:

GATE Cutoff:

The GATE exam has 2 different types of cut off marks. They are as follows:

  • Qualifying GATE cut offs
  • Admission GATE cut offs
Qualifying GATE Cutoff:
  • It is a minimum cutoff that a candidate must score to be eligible for admissions in IITs, NITs, GFTIs, and IIITs.
  • It does not necessarily guarantee admission for the candidate.
  • It is fixed before the announcement of results.
  • It is announced by the IIT and is available on the official website of GATE.
  • The qualifying cutoffs include the qualifying marks for each paper.
Admission GATE Cutoff:
  • It is fixed after the declaration of results.
  • It includes the final opening and closing ranks of the individual participating colleges.
  • It also includes the opening and closing ranks at the individual institutes for particular courses.
  • It does not necessarily guarantee admission into those colleges.
  • It is decided by the individual institutes and is available on their counselling portals.

The cutoff is decided by the authorities to shortlist candidates for the counselling process. The GATE cutoff depends on the following factors:

  • The total number of candidates who appeared for the examination.
  • The total number of available seats in the GATE participating colleges.
  • The difficulty level of the GATE question paper.
  • The category under which the candidates are seeking admission.
GATE Counselling:

Candidates looking forward to admission in IITs through GATE have to register themselves for the Common Offer Acceptance Portal. If they want to seek admission in other such colleges, such as:

  • Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs)
  • Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs)
  • National Institute of Technology (NITs)

Then, they must register for the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT).

Following are the steps to register for the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT):

Step 1: Candidates have to visit the official website of GATE.

Step 2: Click on the link of GATE Counselling

Step 3: The candidates will be automatically redirected to the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT) website

Step 4: Open the currents events section and click on the link of CCMT 2022: Online registration, Fee payment, and Choice filling

Step 5: Enter the Registration ID and Password to log in

Step 6: Enter all the necessary details such as personal information, preferred institutions, and courses

Step 7: Pay the registration fee online through the options given on the website

  • It depends on the scores of the candidates
  • There is no common counselling process
  • Candidates need to verify the documents during the counselling process
  • Candidates have to register for the counselling of the colleges in which they want to apply and pay the application fee
  • The candidates must check their cutoff before registering for the Counselling

After the registration for the counselling is done, the authorities will allot seats based on the candidate's preferences and choices.

After the results are announced, the individual GATE scorecards of the candidate will be released. Some of the important points about the scorecard are as follows:

  • Candidates can download their scorecard only through the official website of GATE.
  • The candidates must download their scorecard before the deadline. If they fail to do so, then they have to pay Rs.500 to get a soft copy of their GATE scorecard.
  • The organizing committee does not distribute a hard copy of the scorecard. Candidates must download the and take a print out of the soft copy provided on the website.
  • The GATE scorecard is valid for 3 years.
