GATE 2023 Syllabus:

Candidates take the GATE exam to pursue their postgraduate courses in their preferred field. They can be a part of a variety of fields.

Following are the subjects include in the GATE syllabus that candidates need to prepare for the examination:

The GATE syllabus of Engineering Sciences (XE) has multiple disciplines. Each one of those disciplines leads the candidates to completely different careers.

Therefore, the authorities have decided to divide the paper of Engineering Sciences into different sections.

The sections are:

• Compulsory Section

• Optional section

In the compulsory section, candidates are not given any choices. They have to compulsorily attempt the section. The subject that is tested in the compulsory section is Engineering Mathematics

In the optional section of Engineering Sciences, candidates have the option to choose any two of the preferred subjects from the given ones. Each one of those subjects also has a paper code.

GATE 2023 syllabus of Life Sciences (XL) has multiple subdisciplines. Each subdiscipline takes the students into different fields of life sciences.

Similar to the paper of Engineering Sciences, the paper of Life Sciences has the following sections:

• Compulsory Section

• Optional Section

Compulsory Section:

The compulsory section of life sciences includes chemistry, which is the most important subject in the field of life sciences.

There are five subjects in total under the optional section of the life sciences. Each subject has a different paper code as well.

The candidates can choose any two of the following optional sections:

The field of Humanities & Social Sciences is very vast and diverse. It consists of multiple disciplines.

Therefore, it is also divided into two sections, as follows:

• Compulsory Section

• Optional Section

The compulsory section of Humanities & Social Sciences tests the candidate's knowledge of Reasoning and Comprehension.

There are six subjects in total under the optional section of Humanities & Social Sciences.

However, unlike the XE and XL papers, the candidates can choose only one subject under this section.

GATE Exam Pattern:

Candidates have to meet the following eligibility criteria for GATE:

• Candidates can belong to any nationality.

• Candidates must have done graduation in engineering or post-graduation in master's degree of the relevant subject.

• Candidates who are studying in the pre-final or final year of their course are also eligible to apply.

• There is no exam age limit according to the GATE exam details.

The candidates who have completed/ are studying in the pre-final or final year of the following courses can apply:

1. B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Pharm.

2. B.Arch

3. B.Sc (Research)/ B.S

4. M.Sc/ MA/ MCA or equivalent

5. Integrated ME/ M.Tech (Post B.Sc)

6. Integrated ME/ M.Tech or Dual Degree (after Diploma or 10+2)

7. Integrated M.Sc/ Int. B.S+M.S.

8. Professional Society Examinations (equivalent to B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Arch)

GATE 2023 Registration:

Candidates can register for GATE 2023 by using the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: Visit the GATE official website, which is GOAPS.

Step 2: Candidates have to enter the following personal details:

• First Name

• Middle Name

• Last Name

• Name

Step 3: Then, they have to submit the following details:

• Mobile Number

• Email Address

• Country of Residence

• Captcha

Step 4: Candidates have to submit the details to get themselves registered.

GATE Results:

GATE Cutoff:

The GATE exam has 2 different types of cut off marks. They are as follows:

• Qualifying GATE cut offs

• Admission GATE cut offs

• It is a minimum cutoff that a candidate must score to be eligible for admissions in IITs, NITs, GFTIs, and IIITs.

• It does not necessarily guarantee admission for the candidate.

• It is fixed before the announcement of results.

• It is announced by the IIT and is available on the official website of GATE.

• The qualifying cutoffs include the qualifying marks for each paper.

• It is fixed after the declaration of results.

• It includes the final opening and closing ranks of the individual participating colleges.

• It also includes the opening and closing ranks at the individual institutes for particular courses.

• It does not necessarily guarantee admission into those colleges.

• It is decided by the individual institutes and is available on their counselling portals.

The cutoff is decided by the authorities to shortlist candidates for the counselling process. The GATE cutoff depends on the following factors:

• The total number of candidates who appeared for the examination.

• The total number of available seats in the GATE participating colleges.

• The difficulty level of the GATE question paper.

• The category under which the candidates are seeking admission.

GATE Counselling:

Candidates looking forward to admission in IITs through GATE have to register themselves for the Common Offer Acceptance Portal. If they want to seek admission in other such colleges, such as:

• Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs)

• Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs)

• National Institute of Technology (NITs)

Then, they must register for the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT).

Following are the steps to register for the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT):

Step 1: Candidates have to visit the official website of GATE.

Step 2: Click on the link of GATE Counselling

Step 3: The candidates will be automatically redirected to the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT) website

Step 4: Open the currents events section and click on the link of CCMT 2022: Online registration, Fee payment, and Choice filling

Step 5: Enter the Registration ID and Password to log in

Step 6: Enter all the necessary details such as personal information, preferred institutions, and courses

Step 7: Pay the registration fee online through the options given on the website

• It depends on the scores of the candidates

• There is no common counselling process

• Candidates need to verify the documents during the counselling process

• Candidates have to register for the counselling of the colleges in which they want to apply and pay the application fee

• The candidates must check their cutoff before registering for the Counselling

After the registration for the counselling is done, the authorities will allot seats based on the candidate's preferences and choices.

When the allotment of the seats is done, the candidates have to report at the nodal centre for document verification.

Private institutions conduct their own counselling scores, based on the candidate's GATE scores.

If the candidates want to appear for any of those, then they must register for their counselling process.

The candidates must carry the following documents to the nodal centre for document verification:

• GATE Admit Card

• GATE Scorecard

• Provisional Seat allotment letter

• Date of Birth Certificate

• Photo ID Proof

• Class 12th mark sheet

• Coloured passport size photographs

• Proof of seat acceptance fee

• Qualifying examination mark sheets of all semesters

• Provisional/ Degree Certificate

• Category Certificate (if applicable)

• Printout of the registration form and locked choices

After the results are announced, the individual GATE scorecards of the candidate will be released. Some of the important points about the scorecard are as follows:

• Candidates can download their scorecard only through the official website of GATE.

• The candidates must download their scorecard before the deadline. If they fail to do so, then they have to pay Rs.500 to get a soft copy of their GATE scorecard.

• The organizing committee does not distribute a hard copy of the scorecard. Candidates must download the and take a print out of the soft copy provided on the website.

• The GATE scorecard is valid for 3 years.
