Overview

Siddha, meaning “An Object to be Attained,” or “Perfection,” or “Heavenly Bliss” in Tamil, is one of the oldest systems of medicine in the world and is mainly practiced in South India and more specifically in Tamil Nadu. The medical system uses ingredients of plant, mineral and metals, and animal origin to treat diseases and infections.

Practitioners claim the system maintains the doshas and revitalizes and rejuvenates organs that cause diseases. The system consists of Kayakarpam (medicine and lifestyle) and Muppu (universal salt) and treatment relies on either or both of these specialties. Siddha has seen its popularity surge lately with people preferring it over modern methods of medicine.
